Lucie Lee Frappier, one of our Residential Team leaders, was approached this month by a broker in Ontario to insure a home with a rather bizarre twist: two completely fire proof incinerators on premises for burning of religious books. The sole purpose of these buildings are for a religious ceremony that is held once every 2 or 3 years.
“My first thought was to decline this risk,” explained Lucie. “However I started to look at it more in depth and looking for ways how we could help this broker in placing this risk. The broker involved is a very trusted partner who understood some of the potential complexities in placing this risk. We therefore had several interesting exchanges as we explored the details of this property in more depth. Based on the details of our investigation, and the risk management precautions that the insured had taken to protect his property, we were able to offer cover.”
“These out of the ordinary properties are where we get a real chance to prove ourselves!” added Lucie. “My instinct was to find a solution to place this risk, and I’m glad that in this case we could help out.”
About Lucie Lee Frappier
I have been in insurance since 1985 (I know I started young). My gig started in Rawdon, Québec where I was to relieve someone for 6 weeks. Well 31 years later I am still doing it!
I moved to Kelowna, BC, in 1990 and started as an Autoplan Broker for Whillis-Harding insurance, in 1991. Then I joined DeMara Insurance in Westbank, BC, where I offered all lines of business except commercial and life. In 1992, final move so I thought, I moved to Victoria, BC and started a career with Coast Capital Insurance Services Ltd (a subsidiary of Coast Capital Savings Credit Union). I again started as an autoplan broker and moved up to Branch Manager, Senior Underwriter, Recruiter, Educator of CIP courses as well as facilitating the IBABC Fundamentals of Insurance classes for newcomers and the list goes on.
I really enjoyed my time (22 years) with Coast Capital Insurance Services, however it was time for me to come back to my roots and family in Québec. I joined APRIL Canada on September 2015 and have never looked back.
I love what I do, I have a strong passion for insurance and love this company and the team at APRIL!
