6 tips to go on holidays in peace
Construction holidays are coming! Here are some tips to leave serenely and enjoying it to the fullest!
1- Warn your customersInform your customers of the closing for the holidays and the date of your return, indicate if the construction sites are stopped but the offices are still open... Give them useful information such as emergency contacts so as not to be disturbed during your rest.
2- Plan your returnFinish all the time-consuming tasks that we tend to postpone until the next day (administrative papers, answering emails, etc.). Limiting your amount of work for your return will allow you a smoother start.
3- Secure your construction sites for the holidaysAn accident can happen quickly, especially if you are not on the site to prevent it
Here is a list of precautions to take:
- Store valuables and tools under lock and key. It is important not to leave tools or objects that could be dangerous unattended, they could be stolen or become a weapon if they fall into the wrong hands. Secure them in a tool box with locks.
- Protect the holes. Closing the holes or blocking their access will limit the risk of falls and injuries. No need to overdo it, a fence is already a good protection.
- Protect work at height Installing a temporary guardrail will make a site at height safer when you are away.
- Remember to turn off the water If possible, turning off the water will minimize the risk of leaks or damage.
- Keep flammable or non-fire resistant materials away These materials are part of the elements to be locked up.
- Report hazards. Installing billboards will serve to inform visitors not to approach them
4- Insure yourself against the risks associated with your absenceEven taking all these precautions, an accident can quickly happen and have serious consequences on your activity. Insuring against all these risks is essential
5- Do not rush to complete projects
Rushing increases the risk of getting hurt or doing something wrong, it is better to leave a project on hold and resume it after the holidays rather than rush to finish it and finish it badly
6- Secure your homeBurglaries are more important in July and August (Quebecers suffer almost twice as much as other Canadians). Prepare your home to avoid unpleasant surprises on your return. Make sure your home is locked and appears to be inhabited. Also, avoid sharing your vacation plans on social media so you don't become a target for burglars. Wait for your return from vacation to post your selfies!
